2012 First Day of School
September 9, 2012

The first day of school is always a special event as students return and some new students walk through the doors for the first time.
The teachers and staff at ONS decided to make that moment even more memorable as they greeted the children as they got off the bus. The teachers made signs, cheered and high fived the students walked into the school.
“It was cool to see all the teachers outside,” said sixth grader Haenhyanonhna. “I liked it ‘cause got to hug my old fifth grade teacher.”
The excitement didn’t stop there. After the Opening Address, the entire school went into the gym for community building activities. There the entire school participated in different getting acquainted activities. One of the activities that everyone enjoyed was a contest of how many people can you greet and say ‘Nyawenha Skanonh’ in 5 minutes.
Kindergarten teacher Simone Thornton said of the event, “It was like we were one school, not just separate classes. It felt good.”
But before the morning greeting was over, our guest singer Shannon Booth lead the school in a Stomp Dance.
“It was awesome that Shannon was able to come and lead us in a good Stomp Dance,” said Mr. Powless. “Dancing is a great way to start the year.”
Looks as though ONS is off to a great start.
