Dear LaFayette School Community:
I have a few updates for our students, staff members and families. While 2021 has been loaded with lots of bad news, I wanted to start with good news first to help shine a light on the great work by our students. It was an awesome experience to have our students back on stage and our families in the auditorium for our December concerts. Congratulations to our student performers and our instructors on these outstanding concerts. A video of the performances is available on the school or district Facebook page.

Two Hour Delay Tuesday November 23 , 2021:

Good Morning,
Due to the current road conditions, LaFayette Central School District will operate on a two hour delay for Tuesday November 23, 2021.
There will be no AM Pre-K classes at Grimshaw Elementary and no AM BOCES CTE classes for high school students.
Please be safe on the roads today and take extra time when traveling.

COVID Vaccine Clinic Ages 5-11 - Fri 11/19 GS Cafeteria 8:15-11:15 AM
We are pleased to partner with Wegmans Pharmacy to offer a COVID Vaccine Clinic on Friday November 19th from 8:15 AM - 11:15 AM at Grimshaw Elementary in the cafeteria for students ages 5-11. Yesterday, the CDC announced that the Pfizer vaccine was given emergency use authorization for this age group. Parents will need to present when their child is being vaccinated. We are still working on the logistics and waiting for the registration link to be finalized by Wegmans. I will also be reaching out to our district mental health team and area hospitals to have ...

COVID Vaccine Survey for Children Ages 5-11
Dr. Gupta, Onondaga County Health Commissioner, has shared that the Pfizer vaccine may soon be approved for children ages 5-11 years. To ensure an effective and efficient pediatric vaccination roll-out, the Onondaga County Health Department would like to gather information from parents with children in this age group.
Below, please find a survey link to assess the likely demand for vaccinations among those aged 5-11 years, as well as preference for where and when vaccinations will be available.

Incident - LaFayette Jr/Sr High School - October 2021:

Dear Staff Members and Families:
The district was made aware of a student situation that occurred yesterday at the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School. One student impulsively cut the hair of a Native American student . The student who cut the hair of this student was not aware of the cultural significance that hair has for Native American students and deeply regrets the actions that occurred. When our administration was made aware of the situation, administrators responded, investigated, and communicated with the families of both students. Due to privacy laws, we are unable to discuss any disciplinary action taken.

We do have some work to do to combat COVID 19. Board Meeting Location Change September 22, 2021:
Due to a power outage, the board meeting scheduled for Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 5:30 PM has been moved to the cafeteria at Grimshaw Elementary.
Signs informing guests of the location change will be posted at the main entrances facing Route 20 at Grimshaw Elementary.

Dear Families and Staff Members:
LaFayette Central School District will be partnering with the Onondaga County Health Department to conduct COVID testing in our schools, beginning on Tuesday September 14th. All schools will conduct surveillance testing every week on Tuesday for randomized groups of students and staff who have provided consent for testing. All testing is voluntary and requires consent.
This testing will be done for the following purposes: 1) surveillance testing intended to determine the general level of virus in our community and 2) provide diagnostic testing for those who develop COVID-like symptoms during the school day. If a student ...

Reopening Plan 2021-2022 School Year:

We are excited to share with you our reopening plan for the 2021-2022 school year . A copy of our reopening plan is available on our website.

All of our schools will welcome the return of students for five days a week of in person instruction. We are especially excited to welcome back our students at the Onondaga Nation School, which has operated via remote learning since March 2020.

Clothing and School Supply Giveaway on Aug. 21:
The LaFayette Alliance Church will be holding a giveaway for clothing and school supplies this Saturday, Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. This giveaway will be open to the public. The LaFayette Alliance Church is located at 6069 US RT 20, LaFayette, NY 13084.
In addition to the clothing, here is a list of the school supplies that will be distributed:

Summer Meals - Sign Up Now:

Dear Families:
Our hard working Food Service department is gearing up for our summer food service program. Recently, the federal government extended the eligibility for meals at no cost to all children in our school district through June 30, 2022.
LaFayette has been providing breakfast and a hot lunch to families, along with a meal delivery service to families, since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Thank you to Mr. Rob Kennedy and our outstanding Food Service department and Transportation department for going above and beyond for our school community.
Meals are free for everyone 18 and under, regardless of income. Delivery and pick-up are available. Meals will also be made available to summer ...
