Neighboring school districts partner to educate community on drug abuse
A forum designed to educate community members about the dangers of substance abuse will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the auditorium of LaFayette Junior/Senior High School.
Organized by members of the school-based Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Education Program (ADAPEP) who are counselors in the LaFayette, Tully, Onondaga, and Fabius Pompey school districts, the Community Forum on Drugs will feature a panel discussion focusing on emerging substance abuse trends such as the growing abuse of opioids including heroin and narcotic pain medications, and how they are affecting students locally.
Guest speakers will include local law enforcement members, a clinical toxicologist from Upstate Medical University, representatives from the Prevention Network and Crouse Chemical Dependency Treatment organizations, and individuals whose lives have been affected by addiction.
Representatives from local services and community groups will also be on hand before and after the presentation to answer questions and provide information.
The event is free and open to the public.
