RE: Incident on January 12, 2018
Date: January 12, 2018
Dear LaFayette Staff, Students and Families:
On January 12, 2018, a student who attends a BOCES program at LaFayette Jr/Sr High shared a communication with all students via email referencing an attempt to injure himself and others. Several students expressed concern to a teacher about the statements made. The teacher contacted Mr. Ryan, Principal at the Jr/Sr High. Out of an abundance of caution, Mr. Ryan and our on-duty Onondaga County Sheriff deputy immediately located and interviewed the student.
The matter is being taken very seriously. Mr. Ryan has contacted the student’s family. We have referred this situation to BOCES and the student’s home district. The student is currently not allowed on our campus. Additionally, the student’s family is seeking the appropriate care for the student who sent the message.
Please know that the safety of our students is our number one priority. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me at 315-529-9550.
