Reopen LaFayette CSD Survey for Families

Dear LaFayette CSD Community:

I hope this finds you and your family well and enjoying these first few weeks of summer. Our district has been actively planning for the return of students and we need some important information from our families. Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo and the NYS Education Department released important documents regarding the possibility of schools reopening in the Fall of 2020. Although the Governor will not make a definitive announcement regarding the reopening of schools until the week of August 1st, the metrics he intends to use are similar to those that we have seen in the reopening of businesses across the state.

In order for the schools to be open and for students and staff to return to the buildings, the region must be in Phase 4 and the average daily COVID-19 infection rate less than 5% over a 14 day period. At any time that the COVID-19 infection rate in a region increases to an average daily rate of greater than 9% of positive test results in a region over a 7 day period, schools will again be closed.

We anticipate submitting three plans to the New York State Education Department by July 31st: a full return to school with social distancing; a hybrid combination return to school; and distance learning; distance learning only.

Our Reopen LaFayette CSD Task Force will meet on July 22nd and July 29th at 3:30 PM to review the reopening guidance, survey results from our families, and discuss our plans for safely reopening our schools.
