ONS and National Lacrosse Magazines

Onondaga Nation School- It has been quite an eventful month for the Onondaga Nation as a few of our lacrosse players have been published in major magazines. 
 

Lyle Thompson made the cover of US Lacrosse Magazine for being named person of the year.  His brother Jerome “Hiana” Thompson made the cover of Inside Lacrosse as the magazine features the Iroquois Nationals.  On the inside of that article, Inside Lacrosse featured Brett Bucktooth.

 
 

 

“It is great that our kids get to see people they know and look up to featured on magazine covers,” said Brad Powless, a teacher at the Onondaga Nation School. 
 

Children at the Onondaga Nation School loved the posters featuring community members they know and in some cases, their relations as well.  Cool seemed to be the adjective to describe the media focus.
 

“It is so cool about them being in a magazine,” said Mason, a 7^th grader at ONS.  “It must be cool to be famous.”
 

Erika added, “That is awesome!”
 

Jaden an eighth grader said of the posters, “This is so cool.  They are my cousins and they just live up the road from me.  I have cool neighbors.”
 

Having these athletes recognized nationally is truly a remarkable for the Onondaga Nation.
 

“It is great that US Lacrosse Magazine and of Inside Lacrosse provided our school these pictures,” added Brad Powless.  “It is an awesome motivation for the kids to see where hard work and determination in and out of the classroom can take them.”
