Event Cancellation - Senior Basketball Game Cancelled

Event Cancelled - Senior Basketball Game Cancelled March 13, 2020

In light of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that New York state is banning all gatherings of more than 500 people, the LaFayette Central School District has decided to postpone the senior basketball game scheduled for Friday March 13, 2020 at 5:00 PM at LaFayette High School. Once we have determined a date to reschedule the game, we will communicate this information with all of our stakeholders.

The ban on large gatherings instituted by Governor Cuomo does not apply to regular school instruction.

At this time, there are no suspected or confirmed cases of coronavirus in the school district or Onondaga County. If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the district, all members of the school community will be notified.

Potential School Closure

  • The District will follow the direction of state and county health departments in deciding if schools need to be closed.

  • In the event that the health department advises the district to close school buildings, families should plan for the possibility of students being out of school for extended periods. Necessary child care arrangements should be made in the event that buildings are required to close.

  • Similar to school districts and universities across the state and the nation, we are exploring “continued learning” options in the event of a prolonged school closure. Parents can assist by letting us know about your home internet capabilities via the following survey: https://forms.gle/uXwhb7CWSg4KzCo8A

Our top priority is the health and safety of our community. The Centers for Disease Control offers the following guidance to keep everyone healthy:

  • Washing your hands with soap and water multiple times a day is a best practice to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Stay home if you are sick or think you are coming down with something.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, coat/jacket or elbow.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

We will also communicate with families directly via the SchoolMessenger notification system, which sends email, text message, and phone call notifications, depending upon how parents subscribed to the system.
