Update on School Closure - March 31, 2020
March 31, 2020
Dear Parents & Guardians,
We received clarification following Governor Cuomo’s announcement on Friday extending our school closure through April 15, 2020.
Through inquiry with the Governor’s Office and the New York State Education Department, the Deputy Secretary for Education to Governor Cuomo, has advised that school districts are expected to provide continuity of learning (i.e., continued instruction) and distribution of meals during the closure through April 15, 2020, including during what was previously designated as our Board of Education approved Spring Break (April 6, 2020 to April 10, 2020) as outlined in the 2019-2020 school calendar.
Therefore, our staff will continue to provide and support students with remote instruction during our scheduled "Spring Break" given this new guidance -- Students and staff will continue with instruction.
While this change may not be popular for students who were hoping to take advantage of a scheduled break from learning, the Governor’s Office believes consistency for our school children with regard to instruction and food is a priority and should continue during any scheduled vacation days.
We look forward to using April 6th-10th to stay connected to our students. I truly appreciate all that our staff members, students, parents, and caregivers are doing to support continued learning. Our principals and staff members are brainstorming creative ways to connect with our students, provide opportunities for students to get caught up on any outstanding assignments, and take time to build relationships and connect with one another.
Thank you again for your efforts to support continued learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me: jbelfield@lafayetteschools.org or via cell phone 315-529-9550.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Belfield
