LaFayette HS and BP Remote 11/12 and 11/13

November 11, 2020

Good Afternoon,

The district was notified late last night that a student who attends LaFayette Jr/Sr High School tested positive for COVID-19. The student tested positive after being in close contact with a positive case outside of school. This student was last in attendance on Monday November 9, 2020 and was transported to and from school by a family member.

The district has notified the Onondaga County Health Department and we are working with the county to complete the contact tracing protocol.

Out of an abundance of caution, the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and OCM BOCES LaFayette High School classes will switch to digital instruction for tomorrow, Thursday November 12th, and Friday November 13th, 2020. There will be no in person instruction for students at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and OCM BOCES LaFayette High School classes on Thursday November 12th and Friday November 13th. LaFayette students who participate in the Thompson Road Career and Technical Education classes will attend via digital instruction on Thursday November 12th and Friday November 13th.

This switch to digital instruction will allow students and staff the opportunity to continue learning while the district and county officials complete the required contact tracing process and quarantine notifications to close contacts. At this point, we plan to resume in person instruction at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and OCM BOCES LaFayette High School Classes on Monday November 16th.

Students at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and OCM BOCES LaFayette High School classes should login at the start of the school day on November 12th and 13th and follow their regular school schedule. Attendance will be taken and students should treat Thursday and Friday as a typical school day while learning from home.

Families can arrange for meal delivery by contacting our Food Service Director, Rob Kennedy, via email rkennedy@lafayetteschools.org. Please provide Mr. Kennedy with the names of any students in the home receiving meals along with your address. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Kennedy at 315-956-0371. All students in our district are eligible for free meals for the rest of the school year.

Staff members at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and LaFayette Big Picture School may work from their classroom or work from home. Staff members wishing to teach from their classroom should notify their building principal prior to reporting to the building.

Grimshaw Elementary will continue to remain open for in person instruction on Thursday November 12th and Friday November 13th. The Onondaga Nation School will continue to educate students via digital instruction through at least January 29th.

We will be reaching out to any students or staff members who were in close contact with the student who tested positive.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through the contact tracing process.

Have a safe day.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Belfield
