LaFayette voters approve $8.6 Million Capital Project

On December 10, 2020, LaFayette Central School District voters approved the district’s $8.6 million capital project referendum.

The projected cost for the project totals $8.6 million, but is expected to have no local tax impact. Keeping student/staff health and safety in mind, and with an eye toward innovation, the scope of the project has three primary goals: 

• Improving air quality to create healthier learning environments
• Upgrade facility infrastructure to ensure safety, health and security
• Educational program enhancements

The Board of Education and Administration thank the community for their continued support of our students and the commitment to maintaining our school facilities.
Voters approved the following: 

Grimshaw Elementary School: 

• Repairing pavement to fields 
• Structural repairs to kitchen flooring
• Septic tank replacement
• Repairs to loading dock
• Alternates: Ceiling Abatement, gym divider replacement, cafeteria terrazzo refinishing

The goal for Grimshaw will be to modify and improve the general airflow and add air conditioning in the building’s cafeteria, gym, and second-floor classrooms. The Library Media Center is also scheduled for a much-deserved upgrade as part of this project.  

Junior/Senior High School: 

• Repairs to auxiliary gym roof
• Water heaters
• Sewage treatment plant
• Potential alternates: Masonry restoration, library carpet replacement, cafeteria terrazzo refinishing
• Improvements to the Trades/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) classrooms that will better meet current and future program needs  

In addition to these proposed infrastructure improvements, modifications will also be made to the HVAC systems in several areas of the building (Wellness Center, Big Picture wing, main gym, music/choir rooms, and the second-floor classrooms) that will improve airflow and/or add air conditioning to those spaces.  

Funds have also been earmarked for the creation of an Academic Hall of Fame in the lobby near the auditorium.
