Water Testing Results - LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Grimshaw 12/14
December 14, 2020
Dear Families:
As required by the NYS Health Department, and in conjunction with the Onondaga County Health Department and OCM BOCES Health & Safety Office, the district is required to conduct lead water sampling from outlets within the schools every five years. In this study, water samples found to have the presence of lead with 15 parts per billion are identified.
The district conducted the sampling on November 7, 2020 from Grimshaw Elementary School and LaFayette Jr./Sr. High School. The samples were then delivered to Microbac Laboratories for analysis. In accordance with state requirements, sampling at the Onondaga Nation School will be done when that building reopens for in person instruction.
On December 10, 2020 the District received the final results from Microbac Laboratories. Of the areas tested, four fixtures had readings above 15 ppb after initial testing, which included three fixtures at Grimshaw school and one at LaFayette Jr./Sr. High School. Other than the areas identified below, all other areas tested came in within the limits for acceptable drinking water. A copy of the lab reports are available on our website or by clicking here: Grimshaw lab results, Jr./Sr. High School results. The following items have been identified based on the test results:
Room 211 Classroom Grimshaw Elementary - This fixture has been labeled “Hand washing only, not for drinking use”. The fixture will be replaced, and follow-up testing will be performed to ensure safe levels before this outlet is returned to regular service.
Room 216 Classroom Grimshaw Elementary - This fixture has been labeled “Hand washing only, not for drinking use”. The fixture will be replaced, and follow-up testing will be performed to ensure safe levels before this outlet is returned to regular service.
WF 7 Water Fountain Grimshaw Elementary - This fixture has been taken out of service and will be replaced.
Room 212 Classroom LaFayette Jr./Sr. High School - This fixture has been labeled “Hand washing only, not for drinking use”. This fixture will be replaced, and follow-up testing will be performed to ensure safe levels before this outlet is returned to regular service.
These results have been reported to the NYS Department of Health as well as the Onondaga County Health Department.
