All LCSD Schools Remote Instruction 12/21-12/22
December 18, 2020
Good Afternoon:
Due to the lack of available substitute staff for Monday December 21st and Tuesday December 22nd, all schools will move to digital/remote instruction next week. As such, there will be no in person learning and, if necessary, families will need to make appropriate child care arrangements for students. The LaFayette After School Program (LASP) will not be in session next week. While we realize that this places a difficult burden on students, families and staff members, please know that we are taking this step due to the staffing constraints that we are currently experiencing. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this difficult time.
Students at Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and the Onondaga Nation School should login at the start of the school day on December 21st and December 22nd and follow their regular school schedule. Attendance will be taken and students should treat these remote learning days as a typical school day while learning from home.
Staff members at Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and LaFayette Big Picture School may work from their classroom or work from home. Staff members wishing to teach from their classroom should notify their building principal prior to reporting to the building. Staff members at the Onondaga Nation School should contact Principal Gonyea prior to accessing the building.
The district office and all school building main offices will remain open and operational, and food service will continue to provide breakfast and lunch with meals available for delivery or pick up on Monday and Tuesday. As a reminder, all students can receive meals at no cost this school year. If you are interested in signing up for school meals, please contact Rob Kennedy at 315-956-0371 or rkennedy@lafayetteschools.org . In addition, the district’s transportation department will continue to transport students who attend non-public schools outside of the school district as long as those schools remain open for in person instruction.
The district’s winter recess is December 23rd through January 1st. At this point in time, Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, and LaFayette Big Picture School will resume in person instruction on Monday January 4, 2020 after the holiday break. The Onondaga Nation School will continue to educate students via digital instruction through at least January 29th.
The district was notified on Friday December 18, 2020 of the following positive cases:
Grimshaw Elementary: One digital learner tested positive for COVID-19.
LaFayette Jr/Sr High School: Two digital learners tested positive for COVID-19.
LaFayette Big Picture School: One digital learner tested positive for COVID-19.
Onondaga Nation School: One staff member who has been working remotely has tested positive for COVID-19.
The district has been in touch with the Onondaga County Health Department regarding these cases.
Please be safe- wash those hands, stay six feet apart, wear a face covering, stay home when you are sick and contact your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Belfield
