Positive Cases - January 3, 2021

January 3, 2021

Good Evening:

The district was notified later this afternoon that a student at the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and one digital learner at the Onondaga Nation School tested positive for COVID-19. The students have not recently been in close contact with students or staff in the school setting.

The district has notified the Onondaga County Health Department of these positive cases.

Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, and LaFayette Big Picture School will return to offering in person instruction on Monday January 4, 2021. The Onondaga Nation School will continue to educate students via digital instruction through at least January 29th.

Thank you to everyone who signed up for asymptomatic COVID testing tomorrow. We have 83 individuals at Big Picture and the Jr/Sr High School signed up for testing. 112 individuals are signed up for testing at Grimshaw. I will be sure to pass along the results. The district will work with the county to schedule additional testing opportunities. Thank you to our partners at Onondaga County for all of their assistance!

The New York State Department of Health has changed mandatory quarantine requirements. Individuals who were exposed to a positive COVID case can now leave quarantine after ten days (previously 14 days) so long as quarantined individuals were symptom free throughout the quarantine period, continue to monitor symptoms for four additional days, wear a face covering, and practice proper hygiene procedures. Here is a link to the updated quarantine guidelines from NYSDOH- click here. If students or staff need assistance with a release from mandatory quarantine, please feel free to reach out to me and I will contact the New York State Department of Health on your behalf.

I look forward to seeing everyone online or in school tomorrow. Please be safe - wash those hands, stay six feet apart, wear a face covering, stay home when you are sick and contact your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Belfield
