COVID Testing Clinic Results and Updates on Testing for Athletes

February 9, 2021

Dear Families and Staff Members:

Here are a few updates.

COVID Testing Clinic Results from Monday 2/8

Yesterday, Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, and LaFayette Big Picture School hosted an asymptomatic testing clinic for students and staff members. Thank you to our awesome school nurses Ms. Brown, Ms. Dumond, and Ms. Gates for conducting the testing and thank you to our partners at Onondaga County for assisting with coordinating the testing clinic. Here are the results:

Grimshaw: 49 tested 0 positive

LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and Big Picture School: 83 tested 2 positive

Total: 132 tested 2 positive

We have worked with our representatives at Onondaga County to notify all close contacts for these two positive cases. Our Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball program will pause all activities through February 18th.

Update on Testing for Student Athletes and Coaches

Student athletes and coaches who participate in school sponsored athletic activities will participate in weekly testing. Mr. Kelly, Ms. Gates, and Mr. Ryan will coordinate testing with teams and athletes. We received clarification from Onondaga County and our district medical director that weekly testing is required for participation in athletics. Game officials will also be tested prior to contests or provide proof of a negative COVID test within 48 hours of contests. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me or Mr. Kelly.

Next COVID Testing Clinic

Mark your calendars for our next asymptomatic COVID testing clinic on Monday February 22, 2021 for students and staff members. Here are the tentative times for the clinic on 2/22:

LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Big Picture School: 8:30-10:30

Grimshaw Elementary: 11:30-1:30

Once the registration details are finalized, I will send out information to families so you can fill out the consent form and schedule an appointment for testing.

Please continue to follow the public health guidance: wash your hands, wear a face covering, stay six feet apart, and stay home when you are sick. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Belfield
