COVID Updates 5/3/2021

May 3, 2021

Dear Families and Staff Members:

I hope that everyone had a great weekend!

COVID Testing Clinic Results from Monday 5/3

Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, and LaFayette Big Picture School hosted an asymptomatic testing clinic for students and staff members this morning. Thank you to our awesome school nurses Ms. Brown, Ms. Dumond, and Ms. Gates for conducting the testing and thank you to our partners at Onondaga County for assisting with coordinating the testing clinic. Here are the results:

Grimshaw: 25 tested, 0 positive

LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and Big Picture School: 12 tested, 0 positive

Total: 37 tested, 0 positive

Update on Positive Cases

The district was notified regarding two positive cases over the weekend. Two students at Grimshaw Elementary tested positive. All close contacts have been identified and families were contacted over the weekend. We wish these two students a quick recovery. COVID is still a risk so please be sure to monitor for symptoms and contact your doctor as soon as symptoms develop.

Vaccine Ambassadors

The Central New York Vaccine Equity Task Force is looking for student ambassadors who have received the Pfizer vaccine. We will have our follow-up vaccine clinic for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday May 12th (more information will follow as the date approaches). I shared the following email with our 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to see if students would assist the Vaccine Equity Task Force with encouraging students to get vaccinated:

Dear 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students:

I know that many of you have received your first dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine.

Our Central New York COVID Vaccine Equity Task Force is interested in getting video testimonials, written stories, pictures, etc. from some of our student celebrities/ambassadors to help encourage your friends or younger students to get vaccinated (when the vaccine becomes available for younger students- Pfizer will probably be approved for 12-15 year olds soon).

Please give this some thought, talk to your parents, and feel free to reach out to me if you would be willing to help promote a positive message about getting vaccinated.

Here's my testimonial:

"I got vaccinated to protect my daughters, my wife, my parents, my coworkers, our students and my neighbors. I also can't wait to go to a concert, an SU football game, and a Buffalo Bills game. If a vaccine card puts me in the stadium cheering on the Buffalo Bills, then count me in."

Thank you for all that you are doing to keep one another safe during the pandemic. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Belfield
