Updates - Testing, Vaccine Clinic, Positive Cases

May 14, 2021

Dear LaFayette CSD Families, LaFayette CSD and OCM BOCES Students and Staff Members:

Asymptomatic COVID Testing Clinic Monday 5/17

Our partners at Onondaga County have graciously agreed to host an on-site testing clinic for asymptomatic  students and staff at the following locations on Monday May 17, 2021:

  • Monday 5/17/2021 - LaFayette Jr/Sr High and Big Picture School  8:30-9:10 AM

  • Monday 5/17/2021- Grimshaw Elementary- 9:30-10:10 AM

Our amazing school nurses will be administering the COVID test to our students! Thank you to Ms. Gates, Ms. DuMond and Ms. Brown for their assistance!

Students and staff will need to pre-register for an appointment for testing. For students who are being tested, NYS also requires parents/guardians to complete a consent form (two steps below; staff members only need to register).

  1. Parents/caregivers of students participating in testing and staff members will need to pre-register for testing: https://covid19.ongov.net/appointments/school-registration-form/ Please register prior to 8:30 AM on Sunday May 16, 2021.

  2. Parents please also complete this consent for testing form: https://forms.gle/Movcc2zrVmRAeidPA

The test will be performed using a nasal swab that will be inserted just inside of the nasal cavity. Testing participants will receive results within the same day. In the event that a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, that individual would have to leave school and isolate at home.

Individuals who experience symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle/body aches, headache, new loss of taste/smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea), should stay home from school and should contact their medical professional to determine next steps.

This testing clinic is available, at no cost, for students, and LaFayette CSD/OCM BOCES staff members who do not have any symptoms of COVID.

COVID Vaccine Clinic for Students Ages 12-15

We have been in contact with Onondaga County to arrange for a vaccine clinic for students ages 12-15 years old. Students in LaFayette, Tully, Fabius Pompey, and Onondaga Central School Districts will have the chance to get vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine which was recently authorized by the CDC and NYSDOH. The vaccine clinic is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday May 25th from 12:00-2:30 PM at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School. The district will provide transportation for eligible students at Grimshaw Elementary to receive the vaccine at the high school. We will also allow parents of students with vaccine appointments to attend and provide support. We are still waiting on a few final details from the county. Once those details are finalized, I will send out the sign up information for those who are interested in having their child(ren) vaccinated.

Parents can also sign up students ages 12 and up at any of the state, county, or local pharmacy vaccine locations:

Appointments can be made at any New York State location by visiting: https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/

Onondaga County also offers vaccinations for residents and you can register by visiting:

Updates on Positive Cases

Since our last report on May 10th, we have been notified of the following COVID cases in our district:

  • One student at the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School. There were no close contacts identified in the school environment based on the student’s last day of attendance.

  • One digital learner at the Onondaga Nation School.

We wish these students a quick recovery.

Thank you to our students, families, and staff members for your continued efforts to stay healthy and safe. Thank you to our partners at Onondaga County for their continued support during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Belfield
