Onondaga Nation School Switch to Remote Instruction 1/4/22
January 3, 2022
Dear Families and Staff Members:
The Onondaga Nation School will be closed for student instruction tomorrow, Tuesday January 4, 2022, for a staff development day. ONS staff members should report to the building and prepare student learning materials and assist with device distribution. Teachers should communicate directly with parents and students on how to connect for remote learning which will begin on Wednesday January 5, 2022. Principal Gonyea and classroom teachers will communicate directly with families regarding device and learning material pick up which will occur Tuesday afternoon. Thank you to our ONS students and staff for their flexibility.
The Onondaga Nation School will switch to remote instruction starting Wednesday, January 5, 2022 through Friday, January 14, 2022. Students should login at the start of the school day, 7:50 AM, and follow their regular school schedule. Staff members will continue to report to the school building during this brief period of remote learning. If staff members have symptoms of COVID, they will not report to the school and should seek testing/medical care.
Seventh and Eighth grade ONS students participating in modified sports will need to be transported by a parent to practices/games while the school is on remote instruction. There is a late bus available, 5:25 PM, for student athletes. Student athletes should continue to monitor symptoms and not attend practice if they are experiencing symptoms.
Onondaga Language High School students will participate in Onondaga Language classes at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School. OL students should ride the bus to the high school, grab breakfast, and attend OL classes in the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School Auditorium.
ONS families can pick up breakfast and lunch at the Onondaga Nation School. Please call to order breakfast and lunch prior to 8:30 AM. Meals can be picked up between 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Families can also contact Mr. Rob Kennedy to schedule meal delivery - rkennedy@lafayetteschools.org or 315-956-0371.
The Onondaga Nation Council established a set of safety guidelines to assist the school in operating safely and preventing the spread of COVID at the Onondaga Nation School. This morning the school nurse and administration were made aware of several positive cases that occurred over the weekend and the holiday break.
We encourage all of our parents to pick up a rapid COVID test and test their children. The district was given an allotment of one COVID test kit per student from New York State. Please contact the school nurse or your child’s principal to obtain a test kit. The district distributed over 180 test kits over the weekend.
Grimshaw Elementary, LaFayette Big Picture School, and LaFayette Jr/Sr High School will continue to provide in person learning.
Please continue to monitor your symptoms, stay home when you are sick, and seek testing/medical care. COVID cases are rapidly increasing and we want to make sure that our students and staff remain safe while in school. We recorded a total of 41 cases from December 24, 2021 through January 3, 2022.
We hope to continue to maximize opportunities for in person learning at all of our schools; however, we are carefully monitoring attendance and staffing levels throughout the district.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Belfield
