LCSD "Morgan's Message" Team Donates to Golisano
Recently, some students from the LaFayette Central School District saw the fruits of their labor culminate in the form of a huge charitable donation through the “Morgan’s Message” mission!Morgan’s Message is a non-profit organization that was formed with the mission of placing a stronger focus on the mental health of student athletes. Created in memory of Morgan Rodgers (who lost her life to suicide while playing women’s lacrosse at Duke University), her family and friends formed this organization to highlight the critical importance of mental health and to promote the idea that it is, “okay to not be okay.”
Throughout the year, team members from LaFayette’s Morgan’s Message chapter (one of thousands found in high schools across the country) organized awareness events such as dedication games to promote the importance of this message. The team has also had many other opportunities outside of sports games to highlight the message, such as a Suicide Prevention walk and a Mental Health Pep Rally. And 2024-25 saw the chapter have its best year yet, as it successfully organized these dedication games across every single varsity sport offered by the district.
Morgan’s Message does not ask for any donations to be sent back to the organization, but rather, encourages that they be used to further spread awareness and break the stigmas surrounding mental health. Senior Gracie Burns, one of the district’s 2024-25 ambassadors, wanted to donate money at the end of the year to a local organization that helps give back to youth in our area. The team met with a representative from Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, who helped connect it to the organization’s relatively new Biobehavioral Health Unit, which in turn received the $1,000 cash donation! LaFayette’s Morgan’s Message ambassadors personally delivered the donations to the hospital.
An outstanding way to close out a successful school year, and the entire district is immensely proud of the group for everything it has accomplished!
