From Study Hall to NASA Lab:
Earlier this week, some junior high school students participated in a live NASA webinar! The webinar, “Stardust Mission & Virtual Tour of NASA’s Stardust Curation Lab” was hosted by Mr. Amidon, who is a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador.
After viewing a preliminary PowerPoint outlining the mission, the group participated in the live webinar, touring the Curation Lab and seeing the tools and materials used by its scientists. The scientists also shared some insights about how they started their careers, and offered advice on what students interested in their own careers in science can do in pursuit of that goal. They even answered the group’s question live, during the tour!
The Stardust Mission proper sent a craft into space for the purpose of capturing ...

Important message from Superintendent Belfield:
Good Afternoon -
This is Jeremy Belfield, Superintendent for LaFayette Central Schools.
Our high school principal was recently informed about a .22 caliber ammunition round found in a classroom at the high school.
A student found the ammunition round on the floor next to a backpack. Other students in the vicinity identified the item as a .22 caliber bullet. The prohibited item was immediately reported to a staff member. The staff member turned the item over to the principal. Our high school principal interviewed the students who recovered the item and one of our on-site Onondaga County Sheriff deputies searched the classroom for any other prohibited items. Following a search of the area, there were no other items of concern found in the vicinity.

Food Drive Produces Huge Donation to Local Food Pantry:
Last week, students from the LaFayette Jr./Sr. High School made a special delivery to the LaFayette Outreach Food Pantry: about 600 cans of food!

Maura mentioned that she runs a program in her classroom whereby students who donate five cans of food or five dollars can earn a point card that is redeemable toward classroom activities. Other participating teachers/classrooms often have their own “reward system” in place, and definitely try to be part of the drive: “There has never been a teacher unwilling to participate,” according to Maura.
The food ...
