Message from Superintendent Belfield Message from Superintendent Belfield: Good Morning, This morning all schools in our district participated in a district-wide lock down drill. New York State Education Law requires that public schools complete a variety of emergency response practice drills throughout the school year.   Lock down drills allow students and staff to practice securing the school building during incidents that pose an immediate threat in or around the school.   Again, today was a practice emergency drill. Important Message from Superintendent Belfield Important Message from Superintendent Belfield: May 4, 2018 Dear Families:    I am writing to inform you of a minor bus incident that occurred yesterday afternoon, May 3, 2018 at approximately 2:40 PM. One of our buses arrived at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School after picking up students from Grimshaw Elementary for afternoon dismissal. The driver shut off the bus and attempted to engage the parking brake. The driver believed that the parking brake was fully engaged and left the driver’s seat to perform the end of trip safety checks and turn off the child find reminder alarm, which is located in the rear of the vehicle. The driver did not realize that the parking brake was not fully engaged and the bus began to roll forward. LaFayette Junior/Senior High School student Adam Schaefer earned a Silver Medal for his self-portrait submission to the national contest, placing him among the top 1 percent of this year’s award-winners. LaFayette CSD graduation rate climbs 18 percent in one year, surpasses statewide average LaFayette CSD graduation rate climbs 18 percent in one year, surpasses statewide average: LaFayette CSD graduation rate climbs 18 percent in one year, surpasses statewide average   According to data recently released by the New York State Education Department, 96 percent of LaFayette’s seniors graduated in 2017. That’s an 18 percent increase from 2016, and 16 percent above the statewide average of 80 percent.   “Our hardworking students, teachers and staff really deserve the credit for these results,” said Superintendent Jeremy Belfield. “There are a lot of opportunities for our students to obtain college credit before they graduate, and so their focus is not just on earning the credits to graduate from high school, but really what comes after.”   Each year, the district has added early college ...

MySchoolBucks increases online transaction fee MySchoolBucks increases online transaction fee: Nov. 14, 2017: LaFayette Central School District parents and guardians who use the online payment system MySchoolBucks to manage their child’s meal accounts will soon see an increase in the vendor’s transaction fee. Effective Dec. 11, the fee for electronically adding funds to a child’s meal account will increase to $2.49 per transaction. The $0.54 increase will help offset credit card processing fees, according to the vendor. MySchoolBucks allows parents to securely prepay for student meals online, view student purchases, enable low-balance settings, and setup recurring payments so the system will automatically add money to the account when the balance reaches the threshold set. LaFayette educator joins Master Teacher program LaFayette educator joins Master Teacher program: Oct. 20, 2017: LaFayette Central School District educator Kristin Angello has been named a New York State Master Teacher by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The statewide program identifies and rewards high-performing K-12 instructors who teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) classes, including courses on the advanced-placement, honors, Regents and International Baccalaureate levels. During a Sept. 25 ceremony held at Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Kierstin was inducted into the Heart of New York Teen Institute (TI) as a member of the program’s youth staff. Board appoints Onondaga Nation School administrators Board appoints Onondaga Nation School administrators: Sept. 1, 2017: The LaFayette Central School District Board of Education recently approved two staffing changes for Onondaga Nation School. During its Aug. 24 meeting, the board appointed former LaFayette CSD administrator and teacher John Gizzi to the position of interim principal and long-time elementary teacher Simone Thornton was appointed dean of students. Mr. Gizzi previously served as social studies teacher and assistant principal at LaFayette Junior/Senior High School, and in 2013 retired from the Cincinnatus Central School District. He most recently worked at Marcellus Central School District as director of humanities, a position he held post-retirement. He succeeds Mrs. Diane Ellsworth who retired.
