Good Afternoon,
The district was notified earlier today that a staff member at LaFayette Jr/Sr High School tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member was home sick on Monday November 16th with mild symptoms, scheduled a COVID test and stayed home from school until the results were received today. The staff member was last in the building briefly on Thursday November 12th when the school was on remote instruction. The last time that the staff member had any extended contact with students or other staff members was on Tuesday November 10th.

NYSED Launches New Parent Portal for Transparency:
LaFayette parents,
The New York State Education Department recently launched a parent portal, designed to increase transparency and make information about school performance and other school-level data easier for parents and the public to access. The Parent Dashboard is part of New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan, which emphasizes equity in education for all students and expands measures of school accountability and student success.

Jr/Sr High and BP Resume In Person Learning 11/16:

Dear Families:
LaFayette Jr/Sr High School and LaFayette Big Picture School will resume in person instruction on Monday November 16, 2020.
Thank you to our students and staff members for making a smooth transition last week to remote instruction while the district worked with the county health department to complete contact tracing.
We look forward to seeing our in person learners back in school on Monday and our digital learners online.

LaFayette HS and BP Remote 11/12 and 11/13:

Good Afternoon,
The district was notified late last night that a student who attends LaFayette Jr/Sr High School tested positive for COVID-19. The student tested positive after being in close contact with a positive case outside of school. This student was last in attendance on Monday November 9, 2020 and was transported to and from school by a family member.
The district has notified the Onondaga County Health Department and we are working with the county to complete the contact tracing protocol.
Out of an abundance of caution, the LaFayette Jr/Sr High School, LaFayette Big Picture School, and OCM BOCES LaFayette High School classes will switch to digital instruction for tomorrow, Thursday November ...

Onondaga Nation School - Remote Instruction through 1/29/2021:

Dear LaFayette Central School District Community:
Yesterday, district representatives met with the Onondaga Nation Council of Chiefs, Clanmothers, and Faithkeepers. The Council has decided that the Onondaga Nation School will remain closed for in person instruction through the second marking period (January 29, 2021). All students and staff at ONS will continue to participate in virtual instruction.
The Council is very concerned about the continued impact COVID-19 is having on surrounding communities. The LaFayette Central School District will respect the wishes of the governing body for the Onondaga Nation and the Onondaga Nation School will remain closed for in person instruction through the second marking period.

2020 Capital Project Information:
The LaFayette Central School District is pleased to present its 2020 Capital Project plan to the community.
The projected cost for the project totals $8.6 million, but is expected to have no local tax impact. Keeping student/staff health and safety in mind, and with an eye toward innovation, the scope of the project has three primary goals:
Improving air quality to create healthier learning environments
Upgrade facility infrastructure to ensure safety, health and security
Educational program enhancements

COVID 19 Testing Available for Students and Staff:

Dear LaFayette School Community:
Yesterday Onondaga County announced that COVID 19 testing will be available for students and staff members who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID 19 starting on Monday September 21, 2020.
Testing will be available Monday through Friday at NBT Bank Stadium starting September 21, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The hours for testing may be expanded by the county at a later date based on the needs of the community.
Testing will be conducted via a saliva sample from symptomatic students and staff members with results typically available within 24-36 hours. Results will be shared with testing participants via a secure online portal. Information on how to obtain ...

All students entering or attending school in NYS, including distance learning, must be immunized.
Please share the following documents ( click here ) with your child’s health care provider (MD, NP, PA) so they can provide the immunizations your child needs. The age at which vaccines (shots) are given must match the NYSDOH Immunization Requirements for School Entrance/Attendance Chart .
Tdap requirements in the 2020-2021 school year are:
Students entering 6th grade will need a Tdap no earlier than 10 years of age and no later than 11 years of age.
Students in grades 7- 12 doses will need a Tdap no earlier than 7 years of age.

On Friday August 7, 2020, Governor Cuomo announced that schools in New York State can return to in-person instruction starting in September. LaFayette Central School District is pleased to be able to offer the following options for families to consider:
A return to in person learning, five days a week, for all students in grades pre kindergarten through twelfth grade with safety precautions (symptom screening, mask wearing, social distancing) .
Digital learning for students who are not able to return to school.

Class of 2020 Donates Senior Trip Funds to Worthy Cause:
Like so many other things affected by COVID-19, the LaFayette Central School District’s Class of 2020 saw its senior trip go up in smoke, as the pandemic forced society’s hand and greatly limited travel and large gatherings in order to maintain safety.
Instead of moping about their misfortune, the Class of 2020 saw an opportunity to produce some good out of its situation. Sitting on a tidy sum of money that had been earmarked for the senior trip, the graduating class (led by its class officers, pictured here) put their heads together and tried to come up with some institutions who might be able to use that money to great effect.

LaFayette voters approve $20.3 million budget, elect board members
On June 16th, LaFayette Central School District voters approved the district’s $20.3 million 2020-2021 budget proposal, elected three board of education members and approved purchasing new vehicles. Voters approved:
An $20,324,251 budget for the 2020-2021 school year that increases spending 3.87 percent and carries a 2.96 percent tax levy increase: 454 yes, 125 no;
Purchasing new student transportation vehicles, one maintenance vehicle and one mail/food service delivery vehicles at a total cost not to exceed $458,495: 418 yes, 162 no;

LaFayette Scholar Athletes Recognized:
Congratulations go out to LaFayette's NYSPHSAA Section III Scholar Athletes, Jack Caughey and Marissa Evans!
Jack and Marissa earned this distinction by being ranked in top 10 academically in their class, while participating in multiple sports throughout the year. Jack was a member of the cross country, basketball and track teams, while Marissa was a member of the cross country, basketball and lacrosse teams.
